The Confessions of a Skincare Addict

My Top Products

Thank you for bravely delving into the world of my skincare, which has seen more lotions and potions than a wizard’s workshop. Picture me surrounded by products in sparkly boxes, making promises that could rival fairy tales, and collecting swanky makeup bags like they’re going out of style – because, let’s be real, who can resist a freebie?

I’ve had to find out the expensive way that it really is what’s inside (ingredient-wise) that counts. So, let’s talk about the elusive quest for the perfect skincare routine.

Mirror, mirror

As a self-confessed product junkie, I’ve tried them all. I’ve spent hours drowning in creams with my friends – but here’s the truth to save you time: there’s no one-size-fits-all miracle product. The real magic is when you’re content with what you see when you peer into the mirror each day. If you’re not quite there yet, fear not – I’ve got a few tried-and-true products that might just be what you’ve been searching for.

Face wash

Let’s kick off with face wash. I’m sorry, but I can’t feel clean unless I’ve washed my face. They call it a classic for a reason and I’ve always trusted Clarins to do the job. There’s a version to suit all skin types – my current fave is the Hydrating, Gentle, Foaming Cleanser (1), which removes grime effectively but avoids that dreaded tight-skin feeling.

Now, onto the winter months or those special events that demand a little extra: enter Jan Marini’s Glycolic Face Cleanser (2). It’s like a brightening facial in a bottle, perfect for exfoliating and smoothing.

Toner

I have to tell you, I’ve ditched all my toners – a splash of cold water is my go-to these days. It wakes me up, reduces puffiness, and, let’s face it, it’s a wake-up call for your skin. Unconventional? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely.

Eye cream

My life’s work, bordering on obsession, has been finding the perfect eye cream. Environ C-Quence Gel (3) is my forever love. It’s like fairy dust for your eyes and has been working its magic on me for 18 years. Trust me; it’s the only eye gel you’ll ever need.

Moisturiser

Let’s get real. No cream can fix bad sleep, a poor diet, too much sun, booze (oops), or neglect. But, I’ve been faithful to the powerhouse that is Environ AVST (4) for decades. It’s my daily vitamin boost, fighting fine lines and uneven tones like a pro.

Now I’ve come hurtling waltzing gracefully into menopause, I’ve embraced my changing skin with Profhilo Haenkenium (5). It’s the moisturising marvel my skin swears by, optimising cell growth and leaving me feeling incredibly hydrated. Those of you who visit my clinic regularly, will know of my love for Profhilo injections (it’s the most amazing product and game changer to my practice and skin) and this new cream from the brand is truly something special.

Night cream

Look no further than Emepelle Night Cream (6). I slather it on like it’s the elixir of life because, frankly, it kind of is. Hydration, oestrogen, retinol—this cream is the holy trinity for glowing, radiant skin.

SPF

I’ve said it before and I will say it again – louder for the people at the back – You. Mustn’t. Skip. SPF. Ever.

We should all be using SPF on our faces, daily. Hands up those who don’t! Both hands up if you still use sunbeds!!

My sunscreen superhero is by Heliocare (7) – they have a version to suit all skin types. Smooth it on and save the burn for the gym. Don’t forget your neck – your skin deserves a full shield. Follow the link for 10% off.

Body

Oh, the neglected canvas. I think generally, we all tend to forget/ignore/haven’t got time to moisturise our body, perhaps being a bit more determined come spring, when it’s time to peel off those layers and expose our scales… or is that just me?!

To help, Environ Body Oil (8) mixed with Derma-Lac (9) is my winter rescue. Admittedly, it’s not sexy and has no fragrance, but the results are worth it.

When in a hurry, I use Profhilo Figura (10) and my guilty pleasure, especially in the summer is Clarins’ Eau Dynamisante Body Lotion (11) for the summer dreams. Because why not smell like Sicilian summers and Gin Fizzes? You deserve it.

Supplements

I’m a firm believer this doesn’t need to be complicated, overwhelming, or leave you rattling like a pill bottle – otherwise, you’re more than likely just paying for very expensive wee!

If you stay hydrated and consume a variety of foods, then you shouldn’t need too many supplements. That being said, here are a few I’ve found to enhance what I don’t find in my diet:

1. Probiotics: Wellbeing starts within the gut as it houses 70% of our immunity. Choose one with as many strains of bacteria as possible to boost your immunity and increase energy.

2. Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn: My best discovery yet. It contains omegas 3,6,7 & 9, for the maintenance of normal skin and to combat both dry eyes and intimate dryness.

3. Vitamin D spray and K2: Supports bone health and a robust immune system. This is particularly important in the winter months when we are not exposed to enough sunlight.

4. Biotin 5000ug: Encourages healthy hair growth, glowing skin and general vitality. I feel this has helped my thinning hair due to the menopause.

Phew, that’s my top-to-toe routine. I do hope this has been of some help to you.

Am I overdoing it? Nah, I’m worth it. And so are you.

Remember, we’re all different and your skin will tell you what it likes. It’s not about looking perfect it’s about being happy with what you see when you look in the mirror.

Love and sparkles,

Wendy x

Menopause Support

Menopause is a topic that has been of incredible interest to me both personally, and professionally, for many years now. The ability to talk, suggest and support as an educated professional on the subject inspired me to get learning!

Why? My aesthetic patients are either peri, pre, menopausal or coming out the other side and naturally discuss their menopause with me during treatments so I wanted to be in a qualified position to advise ladies in two different capacities.

Menopause Decisions.

My Menopause Journey

It was during my consultations that many women would open up, and a certain pattern of common grumble emerged – the physiological symptoms of the menopause. I recognised that I was in a very privileged and trusted position to guide women how to take control of their own menopause health, through informed choices.

After spending several years informally guiding women to the right doctors, practitioners and general lifestyle changes, 3 years ago I set about qualifying as a Menopause Nurse and completed my BSc (Hons) degree during 2020. My many private and personal battles over the last decade, coupled with battling every single menopause symptom there is means “I get it” and I can help medically and on a personal level.

My unfaltering passion towards female health has never wavered, and undeterred, I’ve never given up on my dream, my passion and my commitment, to raise the standards of women’s health here in Plymouth – from aesthetics through to the menopause. I am thrilled to announce Plymouth’s first doctor, female led dedicated Menopause clinic, Menopause Decisions.

Letting go of self limiting beliefs and believing in myself has given me the keys to my future.

Menopause Skincare Support

Emepelle Improves Estrogen Deficiency in the Skin. Breakthrough skincare innovation to help restore the natural radiance Estrogen Deficient Skin loses during perimenopause and menopause. Low estrogen levels lead to 30% loss of the skin’s collagen in the first 5 years of menopause and 2.1% loss each year thereafter. This can result in skin atrophy, wrinkling, thinning and of course, dryness.

Emepelle is the first and only clinically proven skincare line that safely and effectively addresses the root cause of estrogen deficiency in the skin to demonstrate a visible improvement in skin health and appearance.
